Oasis Games To Publish The Chinese Version of Shenmue 3 for PlayStation 4

At a gaming showcase this weekend, Yu Suzuki, producer of the beloved Shenmue series, officially announced that Shenmue 3 will be entering the Mainland China market. It’s PlayStation 4 version will be published by Oasis Games, while its PC version will launch on the WeGame platform.
Shenmue was first released for Sega’s Dreamcast console back in 1999, and is still widely considered as the pioneer of open world games with its immaculate attention to detail and creation of a massive, authentic 3D environment. Set in Japan’s Yokosuka region in the year 1986, players take on the role of a young martial artist named Ryo Hazuki seeking vengeance for the murder of his father. Even almost twenty years later today when open world games have become mainstream, the authenticity and details of the brilliant and complex Shenmue world can still stand its own.
The series received a sequel for both Dreamcast and Xbox two years later. However, the sequel left the story unfinished, and fans have been hanging onto a thin thread of hope that there would be a conclusion for the series ever since. The fact that it has been almost 20 years since the release of the first Shenmue game and that Yu Suzuki will be on-board to lead the creation of Shenmue 3 itself is enough to bring long-time fans to tears.
The initial announcement of Shenmue 3 during E3 in 2015 received explosive reactions from long-time fans and the industry at large. The game then took to Kickstarter, where it raised over $7 million from more than 80,000 backers, more than tripling its original goal of $2 million, becoming the highest crowd-funded video game at the time, and smashing the Guinness World Record for the fastest $1 million pledged for a crowd-funded video game in just 1 hour and 44 minutes.
During the gaming showcase where Yu Suzuki made the official announcement regarding the Chinese version of Shenmue 3, we were able to experience first-hand the passion of the upcoming title from Shenmue fans. Fans of all ages came from all around the country to show their support onsite, lining up in droves for the chance to receive an autograph from Yu Suzuki himself. At the conclusion of the event, one lucky onsite fan was also drawn to win a PS4 Pro provided by Oasis Games and signed personally by Yu Suzuki.
Upon the release of Shenmue 3 in 2019, twenty years will have passed since the game was first introduced to the public in 1999. The announcement and success of the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter and its imminent release has made these few years a whirlwind for all Shenmue fans, but above all – a dream come true.
We look forward to finally being able to explore the luxurious, mystical Shenmue world with Shenhua Ling, following Ryo Hazuki once more in his quest to discover the truth behind the murder of his father, and uncovering new reveals for a storyline that has been put on hold for almost twenty years. But most importantly, we look forward to finally being able to revisit and finish the storyline to a series awaited for so long and held dear so dear to so many, and that has forged the path for so many popular modern titles today.
